Results of the London 2012 Election.

Thank you for your support

Although I was  deeply disappointed with the result of the Mayoral contest (you can read the full results on the London Elects website  www.londonelects.org.uk ), in Lambeth and Southwark I enjoyed a stunning success on the Constituency Assembly seat. I won for Labour with a more than doubled majority. Labour's total vote was 83,239 giving me a majority of 53,000 over my nearest rival, the Conservative party candidate.

I am extremely grateful for the amazingly loyal, hard work carried out by hundreds of members and supporters in Lambeth and Southwark that helped achieve this  result.  Party Members, volunteers, MPs, Councillors,  Council Cabinet members and Leaders pitched in and worked on relentlessly through appalling weather and often an unfair and hostile press.

At City Hall there are now 12 Labour Assembly members, 2 Green and 2 Liberal Democrats facing  9 Tory members and the re-elected Conservative Mayor.  We Labour members will be speaking up for Londoners with vigour, Labour has a strong mandate across London for doing so.

Thank you once again for your support and to Labour members for their truly fantastic help and good will.  I will work for Lambeth and Southwark at City Hall with all my heart and in a way which will justify the support you have given me during this campaign.

Val Shawcross AM CBE
London Assembly Member for Lambeth & Southwark
